On the Brink
Moments in the Flow: Can Mars in Virgo Prevent the IS-RAN-US War?
NOTE: This post was published before the air attacks on the nuclear facilities in Iran were ordered and carried out on Saturday evening June 21st. The chart for the Cancer New Moon shows two yods (places that need adjustment) and the focus for one is Pluto retrograde in Aquarius and the other is Mars in Virgo. We will see how Mars in Virgo deals with an action taken without Congressional oversight and approval, required by the Constitution when Congress returns on Monday.
Hello again,
I realize the idea that a change in the sign Mars transits could shift how the Iran conflict will play out may sound odd to many of you. And there will be a lot of astrological information to process in this post.
But on Tuesday I woke to the news that the US might be joining Israel in the war with Iran. A vague threat for a long time, this more urgent message came after the volatile Leo Mars square to Uranus in Taurus.
Saturday 12.1 million people were active (Mars) in peaceful protest in the United States and elsewhere, with signs reading ‘No Kings’ (Leo), while hardly anyone went to the ‘king’s’ birthday party, or the military parade in DC.
On Monday the President would be allowed into Canada for the G7 meeting with world leaders. (Controversy over this was because of Canada’s rules about admitting people with certain convictions.)
By Tuesday, Mars had entered Virgo (analysis, organization, perfecting and making things work, health, service). We were told the President left the G7 meeting and called for an immediate meeting with the National Security Council in DC. That meeting should be a place to do the analysis and decide on what course of action (Mars) would work (Virgo).
While we waited to find out what their decision was, we learned that Israel was being bombarded. Pictures of bombed buildings in Tel Aviv were beginning to look like Ukraine and Gaza. China had warned its people in Israel to leave as soon as possible. The word ‘nuclear’ became frequently seen and spoken in the news.
And we learned that despite the Administration’s desire not to be involved in the fight, the US was the only one with the specific type of plane to carry the specific type of bomb that would be able to penetrate deep enough to destroy the arsenal of items that would soon become nuclear capability for Iran.
Unfortunately, the US cannot ‘loan’ the plane/bomb to Israel. And it was agreed by many (nations?) that it is imperative that Iran not have access to nuclear weapons. Here is a conundrum without an easy answer. Mars in Virgo would do the analysis and then suggest the best action to take. (Fingers crossed.)
War With Iraq
I thought I’d look at the astrological information for the last time the US went to war in the Middle East. It was March 20, 2003, a year and a half after the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center (9/11).
Jupiter was retrograding at 8 Leo. ‘Shock’ and ‘Awe’ were the words for the attack, though Mars was in 9 degrees of practical, methodical Capricorn. This Mars forms a 150 degree angle to Jupiter in Leo which indicates a need for adjustments between two signs that are incompatible.
In this case, it was a well-structured, pre-announced attack to overthrow the government (Mars in Capricorn) and the extremely wealthy dictator, Saddam Hussein (Leo). Iraq’s ruling family had been given 10 days to leave the country (and their golden toilets, a prize for looters). Somehow, after the bombardment was over Hussein himself was found hiding in a hole in the street, put on trial and executed. (No comment.)
Where Were the Weapons?
Weapons of Mass Destruction that had to be removed was the main reason quoted for the war with Iraq. Much later, we would hear that they could not find any such weapons. This can be seen by the mutable T-square formed by the Sun, Pluto and Saturn.
Saturn (karma, government) in Gemini (information, communications), opposed Pluto in Sagittarius (power in foreign land), and both were square the Sun and Mercury conjunct in Pisces (espionage, but also deception in communications).
This can show that an obsessive belief (Pluto in Sagittarius) was fueled by wrong information (Sun Mercury in Pisces square Gemini Saturn) received by Intelligence. Those who didn’t want this war—the politicians and pundits saying there were no WMDs—turned out to be right after all.
But at least the US was not alone in the combat this time, but joined by allies: UK, Australia, and Poland (Venus in Aquarius, benefits from friends who helped with the work, trine Saturn in Gemini). The mission was ‘victorious’ and there was no further conflict with the country itself or other countries that would take advantage of the situation.
MARS IN LEO 2024-5
To repeat: Mars is the planet of action, desire, aggression, passion, and motivation. In Leo, there is an emphasis on leadership, courage, investment, gambling, romance, creative self-expression, providing for and protecting personal property and parenting children. Since Leo is the sign of Royalty, we might also say Mars in Leo has the motivation and takes actions toward being King.
It entered Leo on Election Day 2024 and got up to 6 degrees before it retrograded on December 6th.
Mars Revisits Cancer
Retrograde Mars reentered Cancer on January 6th, the sign of the People of a Country and the need for security. In the US, the people were experiencing growing fear and agitation. Emotional and material safety is a Cancerian goal and there was concern for both while unobserved changes and actions were being taken in sectors that provided assistance.
Mars went back to 17 Cancer, where it went direct on February 23rd, (I wrote a post about what I thought this would bring: A Simmering Soup Boils Over).
Mars Returns To Leo
Direct Mars re-entered Leo on April 18th, the start of the Easter weekend.
The mysterious DOGE was in full gear and the IRS was hard to reach before the tax deadline of April 15.
The opposition of Mars to Pluto in Aquarius (transformation, power, in groups) came on the 26th. Pope Francis passed, and world leaders were attending the mourning ceremony. The Convocation surprised us by choosing a liberal Pope (Aquarius) that took the name Leo XIV).
The NIH removed staff and funding for Cancer Research while an Iranian port was ‘rocked by a massive deadly explosion.’
The Iranian crisis would grow during this Mars in Leo time and as we moved through June, all but this Tuesday’s meeting happened during the Mars in Leo approach to a volatile square to Uranus in Taurus. This was a recipe that also produced large quakes and volcanic eruptions around the world, and deadly, destructive weather across areas of the US and elsewhere.
MARS IN VIRGO
Mars finally left Leo and entered the Mutable Earth of Virgo at 4:35 a.m. EDT on Tuesday morning, June 17th.
Virgo is the sign of Service (work) and Health. Virgo analyzes and perfects; organizes, pays attention to health and cleanliness, and preserves the all-important survival crop of our ancestors: grains. Appropriately, Virgo’s symbol is a Goddess holding a shaft of wheat…Ceres/Demeter, the Goddess of Grains and creator of cycles, to be more precise (Virgo).
Mars was last in Virgo from August through mid-September of 2021.
During that time:
the US troops were withdrawn from Afghanistan and the Taliban made their presence known.
California became the first state to mandate corona virus vaccines for all health care workers, while a factory producing covid tests was shut down.
Quebec puts vaccine passports in place, allowing those with the stamp to return home from travel.
Covid is still big, widespread news.
Texas implements the Texas Heartbeat Act, banning abortions after 6 weeks.
We can notice with Mars in Virgo there is a heightened presence of issues affecting the body…appropriate for the sign of health.
There can also be criticism of behavior, including impropriety. The accusation of improper behavior with women’s bodies (Virgo) and criticism of a breach in health safety (Virgo) by putting Covid patients in nursing homes, caused the resignation of NY’s Governor Cuomo. He had become famous for giving daily online Covid reports, watched by millions, and was critical of the way the President was handling this epidemic.
Mars in Virgo 2025
Mars will be in Virgo until August 6th this year. It makes no volatile aspects to other personal planets and none of any kind to the outer planets in their new signs (Saturn and Neptune in Aries, Uranus into Gemini after Mars passed the degree where they would square, Pluto in Aquarius).
This time:
Jupiter is in Cancer which indicates the expansion of both patriotism and the need to feel safe and secure.
Mars will sextile Jupiter on June 22nd, an aspect that brings helpful opportunities.
Mercury’s transit of Cancer brings thoughts and conversations with those Cancerian themes, ends on June 27th.
Mercury transits Leo and retrogrades at 15 degrees in July, going direct at 4 Leo on August 11th.
Mercury enters Virgo, a sign it is said to rule, on September 3rd, while Mars is already halfway through the transit of Libra (peace, significant relationships, contracts, laws, agreements).
Moderation in All Things
The famous saying was the Motto of the Bacon Family that produced Sir Francis Bacon, a renowned author and member of the court of Queen Elizabeth I. It sounds very like Virgo and Libra. And I hope moderation is a quality that Mars in Virgo followed by Libra will bring to the Iran situation.
Today we look like we are on the brink of WWIII in the Middle East. But Mars in Virgo will produce cooler heads, looking for the perfect answer that will work for all.
May that focus expand from the Middle East to other countries caught in unending conflict producing massive destruction.
May Peace Prevail.
