Saturn Direct on Thanksgiving Day
Moments in the Flow…The Planet of Traditions, How Thanksgiving Changed, and Lessons Learned
Hello again,
Wednesday November 26th is the big day of travel in the US as people try to get to their families/friends for the traditional Thanksgiving meal on Thursday (Nov. 27th this year). I wonder how many Readers will even see this Wednesday post, but I have some thoughts I’d like to share. Part One is my musings on how the Holiday changed over the years, and Part Two is about Saturn going direct in Pisces on Thanksgiving night (10:52 p.m. EST). For me, there is a connection.
The Holiday
While holidays may bring celebration, at this time of the year they also bring nostalgia.
For most of my life, Thanksgiving was my favorite holiday. It was about the people around the table, and it had my favorite food. In my early days, we didn’t have turkey or pumpkins all year round. This was the time Mother baked her delicious pumpkin pie, and Dad carved the perfectly cooked turkey.
I remember when it was customary to say something you were thankful for before eating the meal itself. Over the years, for many that custom dropped away. And time and locations changed the people I’d see around the table. Television brought the tradition of watching a post-meal football game (for the men, while the women cleaned up) but no one was rushing off to stores or their computer to grab Black Friday sales.
It was hard to experience Thanksgiving when I lived in South Florida. The kitchen got hot and the day might be hot, too. But for a decade, my retired parents were still hosting the meal. The environment had no autumn leaves or pumpkins growing nearby. The meal was always delicious, but except for Mom’s pie, it lost the unique appearance of the foods that were on the menu.
And I lost my innocence about the myth of the First Thanksgiving. One Thanksgiving, after I began studying the philosophy, I decided to wear suede shorts and my Native American jewelry to give the saviors of the Pilgrims a place at the table. And I probably said something on the obnoxious side about what we did to the Native Americans after they befriended us.
When I moved up to the foothills of the Blue Ridge I got the seasons back and discovered Autumn was the one I’d missed the most. But the family was gone, and the phone calls from a family we’d shared the holiday with back in NY days brought a nostalgic moment of joy.
Gratitude Expands
As my spiritual life grew, I became more aware of things I’m thankful for. My gratitude practice twice a day includes areas I would never have mentioned. And I started saying a short meal blessing a friend of mine used to say. “Bless the Beings that made this meal possible.”
My blessing of the meal now includes all kingdoms and all timelines to acknowledge everything that played a part in the creation of the food and that it was on the table, cooked and ready to eat. I learned how limited our vison is in this respect and yet each part of the process was important and necessary.
I think the Covid lockdown got me in this mode. I was not alone in realizing how important the people who kept working to supply necessary services were…and some were the things we don’t think about until they aren’t there (like a sanitation worker strike in NYC long ago, or a recent Hurricane taking out the electricity and the internet).
This year, a friend will host and I’ll meet people I don’t know. I’ll bring a bottle of wine. And when I start the day, I will include being grateful for the fact that Saturn will go direct in Pisces that evening and not come back to that sign again for a long, long time.
Saturn Goes Direct
This week I was grateful to have been a guest on Sarah Stevenson’s Goddess in Training podcast. A glowing Aquarian, she is interested in learning more about Astrology. The focus for my interview was Intuition, but other areas included my take on the most notable energy of 2025 and how I saw the shifts in 2026.
I told her I believed the most notable issue in 2025 was Saturn and Neptune coming close to a conjunction in Pisces, moving into Aries, and then retrograding back to the late Pisces degrees. If you have planets in the other mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius) there has been a moment or two of reckoning. If you have those planets at the late degrees, it felt more like a lifetime. But this combination has also affected the world in a major way.
Saturn’s Realm
Saturn plays an important role in creating the established structures in the world. As the Ruler of Capricorn, it has an influence on Government, Corporations, Traditions and the Cultural Consensus Mind. It has to do with our Public Life: career and reputation. It rules the bones and skin in our body, both places where inner processes are supported in their functions. It rules stones, metals, and crystals.
Here Saturn makes a segue into being the Old (pre-Uranus) Ruler of Aquarius, as it provides the crystals that are used in Aquarian electronic technologies to store information. The old metaphysical saying, “knowledge is stored in stone and bone” which both have crystalline structures. That includes the bones in our body, and much of this is passed down in our lineage.
Saturn is the Lord of Karma. This makes it one of the great teachers, but one whose lessons are not always easy to learn. When there are challenging aspects from Saturn we are having one of those…and it helps to know resistance is futile. It will make the lesson repeat and intensify. At one point in my life when I was going through a difficult time, I saw the connection of my Moon to Saturn. There seemed no way out of the difficulty and I finally realized that I needed to know what the lesson of this situation was.
I sat, closed my eyes and held the question in my mind. I got an immediate answer…not one I would have imagined or been happy about. That makes sense because if I had been I would have already learned the lesson. So now, instead of negating or resisting, I vowed to pass this test. And once I did that, more awareness was delivered and the intensity lowered. It wasn’t long before I realized the benefits from what I learned and how it created more conscious and loving behavior on my part.
Saturn is also the Lord of Time, which has more to it than the hours of our day. Saturn does not always bestow the timing we’re hoping for. In my recent post, Finding the Purpose, there is a section on the Web of Life that gives meanings to why another surrender is called for here. There could be beneficial reasons for delay (or even things coming too fast) we may not know until all is said and done.
Saturn in the World
But in terms of the 2025 world influence we have the principles of relied upon structures paired with the water element Pisces, known for spiritual and creative gifts, but also for deception and dissolving. I’m sure it’s not just the US that has experienced the dissolution of structures we thought we could always rely on. And the hard nature of Saturn has shown up in the sign of Victims and Martyrs—Pisces.
Both Saturn and Pisces are signs which possess a quality of fear. Dr. Bach gave the flower remedy Mimulus for fear of known things (losing a job, traveling in planes, etc.) and it is associated with Saturn’s sign of Capricorn.
Escalated fear, or panic, is given the flower Rock Rose which is associated with Pisces (and in the famous blend, Rescue Remedy). Neptune’s presence in the sign it rules makes the Pisces influence stronger.
I don’t wish to catalogue the many places where fear, deception, dissolution and suffering can be seen and why. I think you will be able to name the ones you perceive. But what we don’t often perceive is that fear makes our behavior subject to control and we may be recruited to champion one side over another. The dissolving of union and compassion for situations is a deep Saturn lesson for us now.

We have till February to receive whatever lesson Saturn in Pisces has had for us. As I told Sarah, when looking at shifts in 2026, new lessons are coming in Aries, the sign of war, aggression, leadership and invention.
Saturn goes direct at 25 Pisces, but slower moving Neptune goes direct on December 10th at 29 Pisces and will already be in Aries on January 26th, before Saturn arrives. Though Saturn and Neptune have been in proximity for a while, they finally make their exact conjunction at 0 Aries on February 20th.
I will be writing more specifics on Saturn (and Neptune) in Aries when we approach this timeframe. For now, I will include my gratitude for lessons and understanding received from Saturn in Pisces on Thanksgiving and be open for more insights as the obstacles ease up through the last part of the transit.
See you next time!
Dear Reader: I am grateful for you! Please feel free to restack or share this post. As always, I welcome your comments and questions. And for all who are celebrating have a Happy Thanksgiving. ✨🌀✨

Love this perspective on how holidays evolve, it’s so insightful to consider the changes over time. It really makes you think about how traditions and the people we share them with shift as life happens.
We are hopeful that the greater collective learns a positive Saturn/Neptune lesson - more truth and idealism, less fear and delusion
