Revisiting Anwen's Tale
Moments in the Flow--The Life of Ancestors in the Celtic Dark Ages
Hello Again,
As I write this new opening to an earlier post of mine, we are approaching the Libra Equinox on September 22, 2025. This autumnal event is a portal that takes us into the darkest phase of the Solar Year.**
After all the activity of increasing light since the Aries Equinox, this darker time encourages us to move inward and take more rest. Allowing this shift in our nature supports another feature of the transformations and change seen in the outer world—a growing sense of curiosity about and connection to our Ancestors.
We may know some things about our grandparents and their parents, but we don’t always think about those Ancestors who lived before the Christian Era. There was plenty of life going on before the early 2nd century CE. Not all areas of the world were involved with or approaching the practice of Christianity then. And once the Roman Church took the focus in the later 6th Century, these early Ancestors were put in a negative light, and even demonized.
When I was writing and after I had published the Revealing the Druid Legacy trilogy that told the life of a late 5th century Druid Priestess, I had no idea she was my Ancestor. This information came to me during a session about a year ago. It was led by a woman who is a spiritual sensitive. She said she would bring me into contact with an Ancestor and I could hear whatever they had to say.
As she described the woman she’d seen, I knew it was Anwen. I had called her my Muse because she inspired all that is written in the trilogy. It does make sense though, because she tells us that we will know the truth in her tale because it is a memory reawakening in our bones.
And her only message for me was, “We always knew you would be the one to do this for us.”
That was a surprise, because I certainly hadn’t known this writing would happen and I didn’t get the ‘assingment’* until I was in my late 50s. I hadn’t studied anything about the Celts or even knew about my own Welsh blood. But as Anwen told her story, I began to understand how important it was to reveal and correct the mistaken image we had of our own bloodlines. That is a healing for us and for them. And it is also a gift to have the knowledge and tools she shares with us in these books.
It’s important for all of us to take back that power now. And in saying ‘all’ despite this being the story of a woman’s life, the Divine Masculine shows itself in several characters and I have enjoyed reading several reviews on Amazon from men who’ve enjoyed and gotten benefits from what they found this trilogy.
In this new version of the older post, I’m keeping the link to Introducing Anwen where you can hear the opening of the Last Priestess. Chapter One one reveals who she is, and why she’s come to tell her story. This is followed by the details and environment surrounding her birth in 479 CE, in southeast Wales.
I chose to facillitate easy reading of a tale set in a land still speaking the Welsh language, by using the Anglicized place names known today, and Welsh names of the era that don’t require consulting the cast of characters list to pronounce.
I’m also re-sharing this link to an interview with Julia Boyd Griffin on the Youtube Transformation Talk Radio where we discuss Book One and more about the Celtic dark ages.
See you next time!
