Hello again,
Yes, the 4th of July—the US Independence Day is here. I am still waiting for my personal Independence Day to appear. Each evening, I think ‘tomorrow I will take a day off and focus on Self-Care.’ Then the emails, messenger chats, and texts arrive. It seems like something always needs my attention. And without realizing what is happening, I automatically treat that ‘something’ as being more important than my own needs.
I’m exploring this idea now because last weekend I taught a workshop on Bach Flower Remedies and Astrology. In class, I mentioned that facets of our personality and behaviors become an ‘identity’ and seem to be who we are. But the truth is who we are is beyond those things. When our go-to responses cause problems or illness, Bach Flower Remedies are a way to restore our connection to the Higher Mind. That reconnection brings peace.
Following the concepts I was teaching others, instead of bemoaning my busyness and overwhelm, I can realize I’ve been surrendering to the energetic frequency of thoughts and behaviors that often plague those with Virgo signatures. And a way to relieve this is to use some drops of the Virgo Bach Flower Remedy, Centaury (pictured below).
I don’t have a Virgo Sun, but there are other astrological planets and positions that can indicate the habitual nature of imblanced Virgo (or any other sign) that will result in various expressions of discomfort. Along with the Sun Sign, significant points are the signs of the Moon, Ascendant, Mercury, Saturn, and the Ruler of the Ascendant. With one or more of these points in Virgo, we can become overly conscientious, focused on service, and our healthy boundaries can easily disappear. Dr. Bach suggested we fall into this by believing that this is the way to be appreciated and loved.
Taking drops of Centaury under the tongue or diluted in spring water can restore our sense of worthiness and help us create and strengthen healthy boundaries that allow us to be of service, but not to our own detriment.
When Dr. Bach left his successful London practice of Homeopathy, he returned to the peace of the Llyn Peninsula in Wales, where he was born and grew up. (The image above is one I took, across the road from the St. Bueno’s Church, where he went to meditate.)
He was born with the nature of a ‘sensitive,’ and in childhood he noticed that different personalities seem to develop a particular response to life and behavior if they experienced illness. Something he realized about current ways of healing provoked his vow to find a way to heal others that was totally noninvasive. Homeopathy certainly works, but still involves introducing a substance into the body to make it react; not totally noninvasive.
With his homeopathic training, he realized the morning dew on flowers would hold the vibration of the flower. Then he was off to creating a new method; one that worked to counteract a certain negative state and create balance in the mental energy vibration of the patient and not the illness itself.
He was also aware of Astrology and the various personality characteristics of each sign, and set out to find a flower that would address the needs of each. The first dysharmony he worked with was ‘fear of known things.” He found Mimulus, the flower of cautious Capricorn, would balance the conscious fears of life, like spiders or flying. (We might all need Mimulus from time to time due to fears arising from current world situations.)
He went on to discover the rest, till he had what is called The Twelve Healers. From here, he branched out to include more flowers for other states, ending with 38 remedies and the famous effective combination of five flowers, called Rescue Remedy, pictured above. (The Bach website has a Quick Reference page which can guide you to find the flower(s) for easy selection.) The Bach Flower Remedies can easily be found online and in some shops that sell supplements.
Of course, there is so much more to each flower than the simple phrase on that guidance page, and I have only scratched the surface of who Dr. Bach was, his work, the practice, and the idea of Astrological connection to the remedies.
Dr. Bach said he hadn’t done enough research to publish about this astrological correspondence. But there are many books to find, starting with his own: The Bach Flower Remedies, and one of my favorites, Bach Flower Therapy: Theory and Practice by Mechthild Scheffer. If you would like to purchase a recording of the 3-hour workshop on Zoom, contact me for information. In addition, I am offering a consultation via Zoom to select the Remedies based on your birth chart.
I am getting ready to leave the realm of holistic health and astrology to post about the Revealing the Druid Legacy Trilogy. I will also share some excerpts from the life of Anwen, a Druid Priestess of the Celtic Dark Ages.
PS With the help of Centaury, I slept-in this morning. I left my to-do list on my desk and will simply go with the flow.
See you next time!
Yay for you…and Centaury, too!
I did a short class on Bach remedies before I left the UK. However, I wasn't in the space, and still too young I think, to fully understand and embrace the concept. I resonate with it more now, ironically when I've been through life experiences which would have been helped by Bach remedies. I have both the books you mention and I learned how to make flower essence in a herbal program I took a few years ago. I just need to put it all into practice. I have not dipped my toe into astrology yet but you're getting me more interested in it! Thank you for the insightful post, Shellie!
