Astrology and Bach Flowers
Moments in the Flow, Ancestral Widsom
Hello Again,
Today, still in Introduction Mode, I’d like to tell you about how my journey into the field of Holistic Health began. This was another direction that came to me and was not sought in advance. Looking back, it seems that most of my life has been that way.
In the mid-70s, in the United States, California led the way in alternative spirituality and healing practices. A visit to friends now living there gave me some eye-opening experiences about a lifestyle I had not seen living in London or back in New York City.
I was introduced to a book by Ram Dass (Richard Alpert), “The Only Dance There Is.” And I signed up for a workshop in NYC for a ‘training’ that was then called EST. Both would be life-changing in more ways than I could have imagined. Apart from the information and experiences I received, I began to meet people and form friendships with others who were involved in this journey, including Tai Chi, Macrobiotics and Shiatsu (both Japanese forms of vegetarian diet and healing bodywork), and Meditation.
As an Astrologer, a person’s birth chart would show me the nature of personality, along with gifts and challenges. But it also revealed health as tendencies and current needs. I wanted a way to communicate and assist with those needs. I thought of becoming a nutritionist which involved yet another battle with algebra, and taking part in chemistry labs. A fellow student asked what I wanted to do with nutrition and when she heard the alternative nature of my plan, still only a glimmer on the screen of life, she said I would end up in a hospital, serving patients green jello. That did not appeal to me at all.
One day, I communicated my desire to a person in the school of meditation I attended. He suggested I investigate Bach Flower Remedies. Like most, I had never of them. But I had already expanded further into metaphysical practices, and was working with colors and light for clearing in meditation. I had understood the healing power of the Tai Chi form. I had heard the methaphysical concept and experienced the fact that “Thought creates Energy. Energy follows Thought. Wherever Thought is held, Energy is focused.”
My friend said Bach Flowers were an “Energy Medicine.” That was not a familiar notion and yet, as he explained, this method was based on the idea that a certain flower held a specific vibration that could bring a type of thought back to a harmonious state. Peace followed, and with that, both personality and physical discomforts could be relieved. And since it did not directly concern the physical body, I would not need a medical license. Bach Flowers seemed to be the perfect answer for me needs. Now I just needed to learn about them and experience their effects.
As it happened, Ellon Bach, then the New York affiliate for Bach Flower Remedies, was holding a weekend workshop later that month. The teacher was one of the respected pratitioners of this healing method in the US, Dr. Eric Love. I was in the room.
Today, many people have heard of the famous Rescue Remedy: a combination of the five Bach Flower Remedies able to address the aftereffects of trauma. But there’s so much more that this. I have been a practitioner and teacher of the Bach Flower method for over 40 years. I have many stories about experiencing the amazing effects of using this holistic healing system, for myself and others to list them all now.
Something I love about Bach Flowers is that they can also be used with pregnant women, babies, plants, and animals. And it harms none … unless you need to boil off the small amount of brandy that preserves the remedies. And boiling drops of remedies in spring water does not effect the vibration*.
I also learned about Dr. Bach himself. He was truly an unusual man, ahead of his time. A great sensitive, he vowed in his youth that he would find a way to heal without invasion of the body and without harm. The story of his life and how he was led to reawakening the ancient practice of transferring the vibration of a plant into water and discovering the specific flowers that would fulfill this vow is truly inspiring.
