Lunar Nodes and Evolution
Moments in the Flow…Past Lives and Future Changes
Hello Again
The Lunar Nodes are a point where the Plane of the Ecliptic (Earth’s orbit around the Sun) contacts the orbit of the Moon around the Earth. These points are seen to be in signs opposite each other in the Zodiac.
After 18 months with the South Node in Libra and North Node in Aries, the true Lunar Nodes will change their sign polarity this weekend (January 12). Nodes ‘progress’ backwards in the Zodiac so when the Lunar Nodes change signs, we will have 18 months to experience the South Node in Virgo and the North Node in Pisces.
Astrological Signs and the Lunar Nodes
About the Lunar Nodes, here is what I learned 50 years ago from my Astrology teacher. He suggested the south node shows where there is a negative, habitual tendency about issues relating to that sign and house location. If we work to elevate our behavior into the higher aspects of that sign, we can step up to achieve the positive potential of the sign and position of the north node.
This implication was also found in the teachings I received in the last London School taught by the founder of Evolutionary Astrology, Jeffrey Wolf Green (1999). His teaching focused on Pluto; the trans-Neptunian dwarf planet that orbits within our solar system but has enough of an elliptical orbit that it infrequently dips into the outer band of objects called the Kuiper Belt and goes closer to the Sun when it crosses the orbit of Neptune.
This can create the idea that Pluto is a messenger from the unknown, moving past the veil to deliver information or a lesson. Jeff said that our slowest outer planet shows the evolutionary needs of a group of souls born in a specific Pluto sign. It represents the lesson to be learned in this lifetime to move forward in our personal evolution.
After noting the sign and position of Pluto, we looked at the Lunar Nodes to see the behavior that pulls us backward and the direction that will move us forward in this evolutionary goal. The signs and houses are important, as are the planets that rule the sign of the nodes.
There is a lot more to know about this work and you can read his book to get you going and/or contact the school to take classes. For this article I will discuss the effects of the evolutionary lunar nodes—the past and coming sign polarity transit—on collective humanity.
The 2025 Nodal Shift
For the past 18 months we have had the Nodal polarity in South Libra, North Aries. We have had Solar and Lunar eclipses primarily in these signs, however there’s always a crossover appearance of the former axis when the current nodes shift, and one eclipse in the future axis before the transit ends. Example: after the axis shift to the new Virgo Pisces polarity, our first Solar Eclipse of 2025 is in Aries.
Looking Back: The Aries Libra Nodes
Detriments that are personal and collective lessons for the Libra South Node:
· Breaking agreements, vows, and contracts
· Vacillating and Indecision
· Overdoing people-pleasing behavior
· Peace at any cost
· Beauty over content
· Adopting the cultural behavior of partners
· Abuse of laws
· Inability to pass necessary laws
· Undermining equality
· Twisting and manipulating the truth
· Lack of support for the arts and artists
· Overloading the internet with junk books
Note: Those with south node Libra in the birth chart can put relationships before everything and lose their individuality to conform to the partner’s wishes.
Positive lessons in personal life and on a global level with the Aries North Node:
· True courage for positive actions
· Acting after receiving and understanding credible information
· Controlling impatience and aggression
· Discussion and compromise instead of war
· Realizing anger does not indicate strength
· Building up instead of overpowering
· Considering others and their needs
· Leadership that focuses on the best outcome for all
· Right use of weapons and firearms
· Inventions that serve a positive purpose are introduced only after studying and weighing both positive and negative potentials.
Note: Those with n node Aries in the birth chart are here to learn the right way of self-individuation and expressing their needs. Sometimes they go overboard in selfish behavior and anger before they reach the balanced level.
There are probably more items to add…for now, have a look at those lists and ponder how well we’ve done with mastering the evolutionary opportunity, personally and collectively.
Looking Forward—The New Virgo Pisces Nodes
The evolutionary potential for our new axis involves the south node in Virgo, sign of health, work, service, organization, analysis, perfection, purity, cleansing, pets, mentors and coworkers. The north node will be in Pisces, sign of oceans, the unconscious, the ancestral, institutions like hospitals and jails, spirituality, spiritual and magical practices, creativity, compassion, empathy, psychic messages, oversensitivity, fluctuations, deception, escapist behaviors, infection and toxic substances.
The detrimental effects that are lessons with South Node transit in Virgo:
· Disruption of order
· Disruption of services
· Overly concerned or lax about health
· Overly concerned or lax about cleanliness/purity
· Lack of jobs
· Underqualified workers
· Harmful mistakes
· Lack of precision where needed
· Issues with healthcare availability
· Expansion of disease
· Misdiagnosed and wrong treatments
· Fear of contamination by others
Note: Those with south node Virgo in the birth chart have been in lifetimes where disease was widespread (plagues) and the fear of contamination through others persists in the current lifetime, causing an unconscious fear of getting close to others. It can be more difficult for these people to emotionally handle the rising number of contagious diseases we’re dealing with now.
Positive evolutionary potential that arises with North Node transit in Pisces:
· More compassion for others
· More empathy for issues affecting others
· Tolerance of all forms of spiritual practice
· Expanding creative ideas
· Clearing up toxins in personal living and in the world
· Taking personal responsibility for clearing the effects of negative energy sent and received from situations and others
· Clearing the attachment to images of victimhood and martyrdom
· Contemplation (meditation) to receive helpful messages
· Appreciation of the arts, support for music, dance, film, and theater
· Cleaning the oceans and other waterways
· Having regulations that promote clean air and water
· Realizing escapist behaviors are not helpful
· Overcoming addictions and seeking counsel where necessary
· Realizing the oneness of all things
· Letting feelings be a guide to take the right actions
Once again, more applications will be seen and applied to personal life and collective consensus.
Note: Those with north node Pisces in their charts must learn to accept self and others and release blame, lack of forgiveness, and unrealistic expectations. They are elevated by engaging in spiritual perspectives and practices that are non-judgmental and allowing their own creativity to express themselves.
ECLIPSE DATES AND SIGNS FOR 2025
The Eclipses mark a change in our lives and in the outer world. The Lunar Eclipse involves a change (ending, new beginning) in the area of relationships to people, things, and situations. The Solar Eclipse is a change and a new pathway opening in the outer world.

September 7 2:09 p.m. EDT (17:09 p.m. BST, 11:09 a.m. PDT)
SOLAR ECLIPSE at 29 Virgo
September 21, 3:54 p.m. EDT (20:54 p.m. BST, 12:54 p.m. PDT
Those who have the eclipse degree connections to planets and positions in their birth chart will feel the effects of the eclipse sooner than those without the direct connection. The effects of the eclipse have an orb of 6 months.
